Even in remote places where mobile phone coverage is not always available, the radiotelephone has a reliable communication range of up to five kilometres in wide-open spaces. The walkie-talkie has 8 channels, each with 38 CTCSS (sub-channel) codes, so it's unlikely that anyone else is using the same channel. This prevents interference and ensures that conversations remain private.
