The treatment is effective especially against bacterial infections (e.g. columnariosis, aeromoniasis, pseudomoniasis, carp erythrodermatitis, oedema, fin and gill rot), fungal infections (e.g. saprolegniasis), single-celled skin parasites (e.g. ichthyobodies, ichthyophthyriasis, hilodonellosis, trichodiniasis) and skin and gill worms. It can also be used to disinfect external wounds, in which case it prevents the development of secondary infections.
